2005 Apprenticeship Survey: Summary Report
Ministry of Advanced Education
The 2005 Graduate Follow-up Survey of Apprenticeship Students was a pilot project undertaken by the Ministry of Advanced Education, the Industry Training Authority, and post-secondary institutions (13 public and 9 private). The pilot survey targeted those who completed their apprenticeship technical training programs in a BC post-secondary institution in 2003 or 2004. Of the 2,342 former apprenticeship students identified as eligible for the survey, 1,156 completed the telephone interview in February or March of 2005. The former apprenticeship students who were surveyed were asked about any previous training they had (especially ELTT), their current employment, and how helpful their apprenticeship program had been. They rated the quality and other aspects of their technical training and of their workplace experience. They also made suggestions for improving both the in-school and workplace training. The report presents a summary of the findings from the survey. Contents include: (1) Highlights; (2) Introduction; (3) Former Apprenticeship Students; (4) In-School Experiences; (5) Workplace Experiences; (6) Current Employment; (7) Conclusion; (8) Endnotes; and (9) Appendices. Appended are: (1) Apprenticeship Survey Methodology; (2) About the BC College and Institute Student Outcomes Survey Project; (3) Response Rates by Program; (4) Trade Program Groupings and Institutions' Programs; and (5) Respondents' Satisfaction Ratings, by Apprenticeship Program. (Contains 7 endnotes.) [This document was co-published by BC Stats and Ministry of Advanced Education.]
