The 2006 Broad Prize for Urban Education
Broad Foundation
The $1 million Broad Prize in Urban Education is the nation's largest award in K-12 public education. The Broad Prize is given annually by The Broad Foundation in the form of scholarships to urban school districts that demonstrate the greatest overall performance and improvement in student achievement while reducing achievement gaps among ethnic groups and between high- and low-income students. One hundred large urban school districts serving more than 9 million students nationwide are eligible. Five standouts are selected each year as finalists. This brochure profiles the following 2006 Broad Prize finalist districts: Boston Public Schools, Bridgeport Public Schools, Jersey City Public Schools, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and New York City Department of Education.
