Final Report on Student Academic Progress, 2004.
Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board
In 2003, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 5135, which directed each public four-year college and university and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) to develop policies to ensure that undergraduates complete their degree and certificate programs in a timely manner. These policies were to address students who do the following: (1) accumulate more than 125 percent of the credits necessary to graduate; (2) drop more than 25 percent of their class loads during the term; and (3) are on academic probation for longer than one term. The legislation directed each four-year institution and the SBCTC to report on policies they had adopted and provide baseline data. The Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB) was charged with summarizing this information and developing recommendations for additional legislative action. The following are appended: (1) Levels of academic probation; and (2) Reports from the institutions.
