Education for Employment: Implementation and Resource Guide. Bulletin.
Wisconsin State Dept. of Public Instruction, Madison.
This guide is intended to provide local school districts with the tools necessary to respond to the revised Education for Employment Standard (Standard m). The revision (effective July 1, 2004) was made to align the standard more closely with vocational and technical activities. The purpose of an Education for Employment program is to prepare elementary and secondary pupils for future employment; to ensure technological literacy; to promote lifelong learning, good citizenship, and cooperation among business, industry, labor, postsecondary schools, and public schools; and to establish a role for public schools in the economic development of Wisconsin. The seven building blocks for the program are: (1) coordination and partnerships with businesses and other organizations; (2) development of skills for the future; (3) career guidance implemented through the Wisconsin Developmental Guidance Model; (4) school-supervised work experience in both actual and simulated work settings; (5) knowledge of the world economy and labor markets; (6) programs that are current and contemporary; and (7) district accountability for the success or failure of the standards. The guide suggests steps for implementation and provides a model plan, a program assessment chart, a state accountability checklist, and a questions and answers section. (Includes 23 references.)
