How To Handle Staff Misconduct: A Practical Guide for School Principals and Supervisors. Second Edition.
Lawrence, C. Edward; Vachon, Myra K.
The second edition of this guidebook, written for principals and supervisors, provides a general overview of procedures to follow in staff misconduct situations. Following the preface and introduction, part I discusses general procedures for handling misconduct and includes guidelines for conducting investigations and school-level meetings. Part II addresses school misconduct handled by the principal, including such offenses as unexcused absence; neglect of duty; insubordination; and abusive, insulting, or profane language. Part III looks at serious misconduct requiring immediate suspension. Part IV focuses on criminal misconduct, including sexual misconduct and misconduct outside the school setting. Within 11 appendices (called "resources") the guide also provides the following: examples of standards of acceptable conduct for staff members; diagrams of the human body for accurate reporting of the areas of the body involved in an incident; a sample of a standard allegation-of-staff-misconduct form; outlines of meetings procedures; the major components of an oral warning; and templates of letters for delivering reprimands, scheduling a reprimand conference, and informing the media. A subject index is also included. (WFA)
