Family Empowerment Intervention: An Innovative Service for High-Risk Youths and Their Families.
Dembo, Richard; Schmeidler, James
This book provides a detailed review of a National Institute on Drug Abuse-funded, long-term clinical trial of the Family Empowerment Intervention (FEI). FEI is a systems-oriented, low-cost intervention delivered in the home by trained nontherapists for high-risk youths who have been arrested and their families. The subjects were a group of over 300 arrested youths processed at a Florida juvenile assessment center. With information on the conceptual foundations and clinical practices of the intervention and an examination of its one-year and longer-term impact on these youths' recidivism and psychosocial functioning, this book seeks to help practitioners provide better services to these difficult-to-serve clients. (Contains 128 references and an index.) (GCP)
