The Source for Syndromes 2.
Richard, Gail J.; Hoge, Debra Reichert
Designed for practicing speech-language pathologists, this book discusses different lesser-known syndrome disabilities, pertinent speech-language characteristics, and goals and strategies to begin intervention efforts at a preschool level. Chapters address: (1) Apert syndrome; (2) Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome; (3) CHARGE syndrome; (4) Cri-du-Chat syndrome; (5) Crouzon syndrome; (6) Goldenhar syndrome; (7) Klienfelter syndrome; (8) Sotos and Cornelia de Lange syndromes; (9) Moebius syndrome; (10) the mucopolysaccharidoses; (11) Noonan syndrome; (12) Pierre Robin Sequence; (13) Stickler syndrome; (14) Sturge-Weber syndrome; (15) Treacher Collins syndrome; (16) Usher syndrome; (17) velocardiofacial syndrome; and (18) Waardenburg syndrome. Each syndrome chapter begins by listing characteristics of the specific syndrome and is then divided into five sections that discuss the syndrome definition, behavioral characteristics profile, speech-language issues, intervention issues, and summary comments. In addition, strategies for using a team approach for addressing deficits are included in each chapter. The final pages discuss the feelings of parents who have a child with a disability and how speech language pathologists can help families. A syndrome checklist is then provided that indicates the deficits, speech-language issues, and suggested interventions for the different syndromes. (Chapters include references.) (CR)
