Core Curriculum Content Standards for Students with Severe Disabilities.
New Jersey State Dept. of Education, Trenton.
This document presents the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Students with Severe Disabilities, a subset of the general standards and alternate progress indicators that emphasize daily life skills. Introductory material reviews the development of these standards and the alternate progress indicators including the purpose, process, assumptions, implementation issues, statewide assessment, research-based practices, and format and organization. Standards are then presented for the following areas: (1) cross-content workplace indicators; (2) visual and performing arts; (3) comprehensive health and physical education; (4) language arts literacy; (5) mathematics; (6) science; and (7) social studies. Following a statement of each standard, the guide provides a descriptive statement of the standard and a list of cumulative progress indicators. An appendix provides guidelines for the Individualized Education Program team in determining whether a student should be working towards these modified standards. (DB)
