Tales To Tell: A Storytelling Curriculum. Primary Source Curriculum Series.
Osinsky, Marcie
Students are challenged to explore stories told through pictures, objects, and music throughout the units included in this guide. Students learn to identify and analyze a variety of recurring narratives, and in describing their own experiences, create their own stories and find meaning within these stories. Storytelling develops speaking and listening skills, critical thinking skills, and creative expression. It is easily integrated with other subjects and offers various cultural perspectives. The goals of the curriculum guide are to integrate the curriculum, create a classroom community, understand diversity, and using learning tools for action. The four units in the guide are: (1) "Storytelling"; (2) "Creation Stories"; (3) "Stories of Heroic People"; and (4) "Trickster Tales." A 14-item general bibliography and lists of stories used in each unit conclude the guide. (BT)
