Reading in Series[TM]: A Selection Guide to Books for Children.
Barr, Catherine, Ed.
The great and growing number of series and sequels guarantees that children can find books to meet their interests and developmental needs from an early age. And a great number of series books are targeted to upper elementary and middle school children. This guide is designed to be an essential tool to aid young readers to find new books in the series they love and series they may have missed. The guide includes more than 800 series for children in grades K-8; for each series, an annotation describes the series' appeal as well as the characters, location, and genre. It lists titles in the series with their original publication date. A special benefit of the guide is the aid it provides in locating series likely to attract reluctant readers, as well as appropriate series for English-as-a-second-language readers. Following a foreword and a preface, the guide is divided into these sections: Series A-Z; Indexes (Author Index, Title Index, Genre/Subject Index), and Appendixes (Books for Boys, Books for Girls, Books for Reluctant Readers/ESL Students).
