The Facilitator's Edge: Group Sessions for Edge-ucators.
Handcock, Helen
The Facilitator's Edge is a workshop series based on the life/work messages of The Edge magazine. The workshops are deigned to help educators, youth workers, and their career practitioners facilitate conscious career building. This manual consists of five group sessions, each focusing on a different career-building theme. "Megatrends and Making it Happen" explores the concept of taking initiative by having participants consider megatrends and related work opportunities. Participants personalize their learning by exploring times when they have or have not made things happen in their own lives. "Career Building Outside the Box" introduces the concept of conscious career building and reinforces for teens the value of not knowing exactly what they want to do with the rest of their lives. The "You're a Star!" module explores the myriad roles participants play in their lives. "Crystal Ball Gazing" introduces the concept of having a vision as a key to decision making. Within the final session, "Transferable Skills," participants identify skills used in familiar life/work roles and then identify skills preferred by employers in the New Economy. Student handouts for the activities are included. (Author/MKA)
