Kentucky's Teachers: Charting a Course for KERA's Second Decade.
Clements, Stephen
The Kentucky Long-Term Policy Research Center is engaged in a continuing effort to understand implications of an array of trends and policies affecting the state. This report examines the status of Kentucky's teacher workforce and offers recommendations on ways to enhance it. The five chapters are: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "Teacher Quality in Context" (e.g., national and state attention on teacher workforce issues); (3) "Indicators of Teacher Quality" (e.g., teacher experience and education levels and students completing teacher training programs); (4) "Teacher Quality and Future Issues" (e.g., teacher turnover, teacher supply and demand, and teacher salaries); and (5) "Conclusions and Policy Options" (e.g., the comprehensive education data system and creating a supportive system for teacher workforce improvements). There are four appendixes: student achievement in Kentucky; Kentucky's teacher training system; professional development issues; and reviewer's comments. (SM)
