Mississippi Services for Children and Youth with Deaf-Blindness, 10/1/95-9/30/99. Final Report.
University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg. Dept. of Special Education.
This final report describes activities and accomplishments of a four-year federally supported program to implement and evaluate services to children with deaf-blindness in Mississippi. The program focused on three major goals: (1) identification of eligible participants and maintenance of the Deaf-Blind Registry and census update; (2) provision of family/early interventionist training and interagency collaboration for assessment, referral, and implementation of early intervention services for infants and toddlers; and (3) provision of cost-effective technical assistance activities to families, service providers, and agencies with an emphasis on vision/hearing, communication, functional skills, inclusion, and adult transition. The project's activities and services were provided to approximately 150 infants, children, and youth, their families, and service providers. The report describes activities and outcomes for each objective under these three goals. Six appendices include the Deaf-Blind Registry referral/census update packet, program products, technical assistance forms and procedures, information about the project's Web site, the management by objectives guide, and a list of the program's advisory board members.
