Toys for All Children: Selecting Toys for Children with Vision or Motor Challenge.

This guide identifies 45 toys appropriate for young children with visual and/or motor impairments. Criteria for the toys selected include the following: provides sound feedback, has brightly colored surfaces with high contrast colors, provides surfaces that are interesting to touch, stimulates thinking by requiring specific actions or problem solving, relates to a child's physical or social environment, stimulates and encourages reaching and movement, and provides fun and enjoyment. Toys are grouped into the following categories: (1) toys that light up or sing; (2) toys that catch your eye; (3) toys that shake, rattle, and roll; (4) switch toys; and (5) toys for the creative artist. Also listed are addresses and telephone numbers of eight catalog resources. Each toy listing includes a picture, the name of the manufacturer, cost, and special features. (DB)
