El Curriculo Creativo, para Educacion Preescolar. Tercera Edicion (The Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood. Third Edition).
Dodge, Diane Trister; Colker, Laura J.
This Spanish-language teaching guide provides early childhood teachers with a philosophy and guidelines for teaching that address children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. The guide describes a curriculum that offers teachers guidance, support, and freedom to be creative and responsive with children, and provides children, including disabled children, a carefully organized and rich developmental environment. Topics discussed in Part 1 are: (1) the philosophy of the creative curriculum; (2) goals and objectives of children's development; (3) the physical environment of the classroom; (4) methods for meeting the needs of individual children; (5) schedule and routines; (6) the organization of children's learning; and (7) parents' role in the creative curriculum. Part 2 describes in detail what and how children learn, and the teacher's role in supporting children's development by means of the following interest areas: block play, house play, table toys, art, sand and water, library, music and movement, cooking, computers, and outdoors. Appendices include a child development and learning checklist and a list of 80 resources for further reading. A 37-minute companion video, with Spanish subtitles, focuses on how the classroom environment facilitates the creative curriculum, detailing elements of the learning centers listed above. (HTH)
