Corbett, Tom; Boehnen, Elisabeth; White, Cynthia
This WisKids Count data book examines statewide trends in the well-being of Wisconsin's children, revisiting indicators that have been followed since the inception of the WisKids Count series. The statistical portrait is based on nine general areas: (1) county demographics; (2) county labor market; (3) family formation; (4) child health/family well-being; (5) child and family welfare; (6) juvenile justice; (7) public program participation; (8) early childhood program participation; and (9) Wisconsin Works (W-2) and related programs. The report is divided into five sections. Section 1 contains introductory materials and specifically addresses seven areas of concern for Wisconsin's children at the end of the decade: (1) economic growth and child well-being; (2) brain development: the first 3 years; (3) family formation; (4) child health; (5) child welfare; (6) public program participation; and (7) adolescence. Section 2, the bulk of the report, contains statistical data for the state of Wisconsin as a whole and for its 72 counties. Section 3 contains a 3 year average of county rankings and trends in the areas of annual wage in goods-producing sectors, incidents of domestic violence, children receiving WIC services, and births to mothers with less than a high school education. Section 4 contains education data by county for standardized tests and selected incidence numbers. numbers. The final section contains information on data sources and explanations. (SD)
