Kids Count Data Book on Louisiana's Children, 1999.
Agenda for Children, New Orleans, LA.
This Kids Count data book provides statistics on the well-being of children in Louisiana. Data are provided for the state as a whole and for each of Louisiana's 64 parishes. An introduction summarizes findings for 1999, and a final section summarizes trends in the data over the past several years. Indicators used in the report to measure child well-being are: (1) population; (2) poverty; (3) employment and income (median family income, percent and number unemployed); (4) children receiving aid from Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP), Medicaid, food stamps, Women Infants and Children (WIC) program, child care assistance, and FINDWORK child care; (5) maternal and child health (percent births to teens, percent low birth weight, percent women receiving adequate prenatal care, infant mortality rate, immunization rates); (6) children in trouble (children in custody/under supervision of Office of Youth Development, crimes against property, crimes against persons); (7) child abuse and neglect (physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, children in foster care); and (8) public education (registration, per pupil expenditure, teacher salary, exceptional children program, dropout rates).
