This resource guide contains learning activities designed to complement existing ABE curricula or become the cornerstone of an ABE curriculum integrating reading, writing, and math skills with practical life knowledge. The guide begins with an introduction, acknowledgments, and an overview of Colorado's Certificate of Accomplishment program, which is based on individual and interactive learning activities allowing students to learn at their own pace and demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills through a certificate process portfolio. Sections 3-6 contain the following: guidelines for using the resource guide; assembling a portfolio; verification checklist and class tracking charts; and index of competencies. Sections 7-9 present 39 reading, writing, and math competencies cross-referenced to the appropriate Colorado Department of Education standards. Some or all of the following are included for each competency: competency statement; skills, vocabulary, and materials required to complete the learning activities provided; detailed lesson plan; list of suggested resources and publisher addresses; learning activities; and verification page to be completed by students and placed in their portfolios.
