The Northeast Texas Adult Education Rural Workplace Literacy Program. Annual Performance Report.

The Northeast Texas Adult Education Rural Education Workplace Literacy Program, which is a partnership between Northeast Texas Community College and area businesses, offers workplace literacy instruction designed around job-specific basic skills. Training is offered in the following: applied workplace technology; applied math skills; measurements with micrometers; process accuracy for qualify products; crane safety; fork truck operations; and workplace English as a second language. During its third year, the project served 546 individuals and met or exceeded all its objectives. On posttests, participants manifested significant improvements in reading, writing, math, problem solving, reasoning, listening, and communication skills. Of those participants who lacked a high school diploma, 24% completed all requirements to receive a high school diploma or its equivalent. All participants identified as limited English proficient demonstrated improvements in their English skills. Participant and employer satisfaction with the programs was overwhelmingly positive.
