The Gestalt Art Experience: Patterns That Connect. Revised Edition.
Rhyne, Janie
This guide describes how to use art media to explore and discover unique personal qualities. Structures and techniques, which can be used in therapy with individuals or growth-oriented groups, are suggested. The book is organized into 10 chapters and 4 parts. Part 1 outlines the theoretical basis for gestalt art experiences. Part 2 discusses the role of art experience in enabling people to create visual imagery that expresses repressed memories, perceptions, and insight into lived experiences. These expressions then become referents that can facilitate communication between one's inner and outer consciousness. Part 3 suggests projects for individual exploration of self-perceptions, attitudes, the patterns of one's life, and the possibilities of one's future. Part 4 describes group art experiences and offers suggestions for group leaders. An appendix of suitable art materials is provided. (Contains an afterward, 57 references, and an index.) (MM)
