This resource packet is designed to help teachers incorporate the study of ancient Greek and Roman art into junior and senior high school classrooms. The packet consists of four curriculum units based upon aspects of classical life or culture. These units are: "Daily Life; Mythology"; "Images of Power"; and "Echoes of Antiquity." The units were developed to prepare secondary level students for and build on corresponding gallery visits to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, but the materials may be adapted for independent use. Each unit focuses on selected objects in the museum collections and outlines projects which may be done before,during, and after a museum visit. Background information and a black and white reproduction of each art object is provided. A series of questions encourage student description, interpretation, and creative response to the works of art. Reproducible "Discovery Sheets" provide a range of interdisciplinary activities that students can complete either on their own or in small groups. These activities require students to gather information, develop observation and comparison skills, and encourage reflection upon connections between the art and culture of ancient Greeks and Romans and contemporary experiences.
