Girls Can! Community Coalitions Resource Manual.
American Association of Univ. Women Educational Foundation, Washington, DC.
It is possible that the materials presented in this manual were used in implementing community action projects supported by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation. These projects, part of the Girls Can! initiative, were intended to address the disparity between the educational experiences of girls and boys in grades K through 12. The manual's 10 sections include: (1) an introduction; (2) basic strategies for community organizing; (3) tips and tools for project management; (4) ideas for building effective coalitions; (5) suggestions for working with volunteers; (6) background information on educational equity; (7) information on issues of racial and ethnic diversity; (8) suggestions for working with the media; (9) suggestions for funding sources; and (10) AAUW resources. The manual contains a variety of materials--from AAUW publications as well as from outside sources--that include article and chapter reprints, checklists, sample news releases, and resource lists.
