La conception de l'anglicisme dans les sources metalinguistiques quebecoises de 1800 a 1930 (The Concept of Anglicism in Quebec Metalinguistic Sources from 1800 to 1930). Publication B-205.
Lamontagne, Linda
The report, entirely in French, details a study of the concepts of "anglicism" drawn from a wide sample of French Canadian metalinguistic material published between 1800 and 1930. The study analyzed the use of the term "anglicism" and various associated concepts, identified the principal trends in the way anglicisms were presented, and examined how the different types of borrowings were classified by some of the authors. It also explored how this phenomenon was judged, especially in comparison with standards used in France, and lists terms denounced by observers of the period as being the most "contaminating." The author also examines how this phenomenon was viewed linguistically by the writers of the period, comparing principles and offering examples. Contains 147 references. (Author/MSE)
