Choosing and Using Books with Adult New Readers.
Weibel, Marguerite Crowley
Written for teachers of adult literacy students and administrators of literacy programs, this book discusses a multitude of ways to use books appropriate for adult new readers. The book's first six chapters provide annotated lists of 639 books suitable for new readers, including titles, authors, dates, publishers, and suggested reading levels. These chapters provide information of the following types of written materials: (1) art and photography books; (2) poetry; (3) works of literature; (4) nonfiction books; (5) information-seeking skills and reference materials; and (6) picture books for all ages. The last chapter provides information about how the books included in the bibliography were selected. The book is indexed by title, author, and subject. (KC)
