The six legends told here, in Tlingit on the left page and in English on the right page, are told by Elizabeth Nyman, a Tlingit elder of the Taku River clan. The narratives represent a portion of the clan's oral history. Introductory sections provide some historical background concerning the clan, the story teller, and the traditions with which the stories are associated. The texts include: "The Battle of the Giants"; "The History of the Taku Yanyedi"; "The Story of Glacier-Bidding Bay"; "Elizabeth Nyman Tells Her Life Story"; "The First Wedded Year"; and "Tl'anaxidakhw."
