Project SCORE (School and Community Offering Resources for Employment) was undertaken by Collin County Community College in Texas to develop a system to help McKinney High School students move with confidence from school to work and further education. The program, which was developed through the joint efforts of school and business/industry partners and others involved in school-to-work transition activities in Collin County, offers various school-based, work-based, and connecting activities/services, including the following: individual/group career assessments; career/life planning; job search skills training; occupational/educational selection assistance; adopt-a-student program (mentoring, job shadowing, internships); and information and referral (to colleges, business, and the community). The project has helped numerous students make successful transitions from school to work/further education and has strengthened vocational-technical education in Collin County by stimulating dialogue among business, community leaders, educators, parents, and students.
