Prepared as part of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum's efforts to explore issues related to economic development and technology training, the three essays in this collection describe industrial training efforts at community colleges, focusing on partnerships with the private sector, programs targeted at women, and the use of cost-benefit analyses in evaluating programs. Following a brief preface, "Private and Public Sector Partnerships in Skills Training for Industrial Technology" (Alex Curran and William Hanna) analyzes key characteristics of five public and private sector training partnerships in Canada, the United States, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, and Malaysia. Next, "Industrial Technology Training Programs for Women: Gender Issues & Program Success Factors" (Miriam Bailey) reviews reasons for improving women's participation in training and describes key characteristics of four programs designed primarily for women. Finally, "Cost-Benefit Analysis and Industrial Training: A Case for Minimizing Objectives" (Michael Hatton and John Holland), examines aircraft mechanic training programs to determine the degree to which cost-benefit analysis might be used for setting policies, strategies, and tactics in training programs.
