College-Level Academic Skills Test. Statewide and Institutional Report of Results, 1992-1993.
Florida State Dept. of Education, Tallahassee.
The College-Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) is mandated as part of Florida's system of educational accountability. The CLAST is an achievement test that measures students' attainment of the college-level communication and mathematics skills that have been identified by the faculties of community colleges and state universities. Four subtests make up the CLAST: (1) essay, a test of writing skill; (2) English language skills, a test of word choice, sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and capitalization; (3) reading, a test of literal and critical comprehension; and (4) mathematics, a test covering arithmetic, algebra, geometry, measurement, logical reasoning, and statistics. This document contains the combined results of the three CLAST administrations for the 1992-1993 school year, as well as separate results for October 1992, February 1993, and June 1993 in four color-coded tables. Results are based on the performance of first-time examinees in public institutions and in independent institutions. They include the means and passing rates for each subtest for each institution, for both genders and each racial and ethnic category. (SLD)
