This publication lists 91 trade books that a group of adult literacy professionals have read and recommended for use in adult literacy programs. An introductory section explains the process used to decide upon recommended books, provides a key for the symbols that describe each book, and makes some general suggestions for the ways books from the list might be used. The top of each sheet provides bibliographic information about the book: author, title, publisher, ISBN number, illustrator, date, and city. The type of book is followed by the reading group's rating of the book. Information about the type of book and its characters and setting follow. Each entry may also identify the types of adult literacy learners who might be especially interested in the book. General Educational Development descriptors follow, as does a list of themes for the book that were suggested by members of the reading group. The final sections of each page provide a brief summary of the book and several instructional suggestions. Suggestions include writing and discussion topics, ideas for thematic units, and possible companion titles. (YLB)
