The purpose of this plan is to minimize the potential for disaster and to minimize damage to materials if a disaster should occur. It contains: emergency instructions; evacuation procedures; a disaster contact list; and sections on salvage priorities, prevention, protection, response, recovery, rehabilitation, disaster team responsibilities, insurance, disaster supplies, suppliers, and equipment. Procedures for handling damaged materials, which have been tested and accepted by many conservators and institutions concerned with the safety and care of library materials, are also provided. Three appendices include: (1) a floor plan of the E. H. Butler Library; (2) instructions on drying wet books and records; air-drying wet books and records; and recovery techniques for non-print materials; and (3) a record of disaster recovery activities for library and archival collections.
