Handbook for Teachers of Health Science Technology Education.

This guide is intended as a central source of information for teacher-coordinators and school administrators who are responsible for implementing health science technology education (HSTE) programs in Texas. Section I contains various introductory materials, including an outline of qualifications for HSTE teachers and information on professional organizations/activities. Discussed in section II are the following topics pertaining to administrative responsibilities: teacher-coordinators, classroom facilities/equipment, student files, program management reports, advisory committees, substitute teachers, public relations and promotional activities, and closing out the school year. Section III examines the following topics related to instructional strategies and responsibilities: the HSTE program (competencies, teaching strategies, and student selection); cooperative education (establishing a program, working with training sponsors, placing students, and visiting sites); clinical rotation (establishing and overseeing programs); and other teaching strategies (establishing laboratory programs and addressing special needs). Presented in sections IV and V are 24 sample forms used in HSTE programs and lists of the following: curriculum and reference materials; anatomical models, equipment, and emergency products; educational software for students and teachers; and videos. Section VI discusses Health Occupations Students of America chapter management. (MN)
