The Oxford Internship Scheme: Integration + Partnership in Initial Teacher Education.
Benton, Peter, Ed.
This book contains essays about a specific and local reform, the Oxford Internship Scheme, which was developed and implemented by a partnership between Oxford University (England) and the local education authority in Oxfordshire. The internship program represents a commitment to the school-based training of teachers and, in some ways, is analogous to the teaching hospital concept. The 12 chapters are: (1) "The Reform of Teacher Education" (Harry Judge); (2) "Ideas and Principles Guiding the Internship Scheme" (Donald McIntyre); (3) "The Process of Change" (Anna Pendry); (4) "The Internship Model" (Peter Benton); (5) "Learning To Teach: Designing and Running Two Curriculum Programmes" (Chris Davies and others); (6) "Being a Teacher: Whole-School Aspects of the Internship Scheme" (Brian Woolnough and others); (7) "The Impact on the Schools" (Hazel Hagger); (8) "A Headteacher's Perspective" (Howard Green); (9) "The LEA Engagement" (Tim Brighouse); (10) "An Evolving Course" (Terry Allsop, Graham Corney); (11) "Internship: A View from Outside" (Paul H. Hirst); and (12) "Internship: A View from Abroad" (Judith Warren Little). Two appendices are included: "The Definition of Roles" and "List of Important Abilities." The latter refers to assessment criteria for interns. (IAH)
