Peterson's Guide to Two-Year Colleges, 1995. Twenty-Fifth Edition.
Pendleton, Erika H., Ed.; Zidzik, Mark A., Ed.
This guidebook is designed primarily to give students the information they need in selecting a two-year college. It provides information about individual colleges and indexes to help students locate colleges with particular characteristics. The data in this guide were obtained directly from the colleges themselves and are updated annually. Following a brief introduction, the guidebook provides information pertinent to prospective community college students, including (1) checklists to help students plan for the admissions and financial aid processes; (2) an essay entitled "What You Need To Know about Two-Year Colleges," by David R. Pierce; (3) "Fifteen Frequently Asked Questions about Transferring," by Muriel M. Shishkoff; (4) "Returning to School: A Guide for Adult Students," by Sandra Cook; (5) "The Twenty Most-Asked Questions about Financial Aid," by Don M. Betterton; (6) "Surviving Standardized Tests," which includes information including test dates about the exams offered by the American College Testing Program and College Board; and (7) "Looking at Majors and Careers." The next section provides a state-by-state table comparing institutions by enrollment, application requirements, types of financial aid available, and numbers of sports and majors offered, as well as an alphabetical listing of majors for associate degree programs at two- and four-year colleges. The next section provides a list of institutions that have recently closed, merged with other institutions, or changed their name or status. Next, detailed factual profiles of colleges are presented, covering background, enrollment figures, faculty size, admission and graduation requirements, expenses, financial aid, special programs, career services, sports, majors, and contacts for further information. In-depth descriptions are provided for many colleges. The final section is a state-by-state index to colleges and universities. (MAB)
