Discussion of the Design and Implementation of the Lauder Content-Based Curriculum: Practical and Theoretical Considerations.
Cowles, Maria Antonia
The dual-degree MBA/MA program of the University of Pennsylvania is described. The program is designed to provide future business leaders with superior international management education and prepare them to operate effectively and comfortably in the global economy through social and professional language skills and knowledge of diverse cultural environments, including business, contemporary, and traditional cultures. Description of the program includes information on program structure, admission criteria, evolution of the language and cultural perspectives program, and principles of curriculum design used for this component. Staff development needs, a current program redesign effort, and the role of content-based language learning are discussed briefly. Program elements scheduled for each semester of the 24-month program are charted, including components from the business administration program, master of arts program, joint credit, and non-credit elements. A brief bibliography is included. Appended materials include the student questionnaire used for redesign of the program's Western European segment and excerpts from the Japanese, French, and Portuguese instructional materials. (MSE)
