Analysing the Instructional Setting: Environmental Analysis.
Tessmer, Martin; Harris, Duncan
To be successful, the instructional design must take the learning environment into consideration. But how is this environment to be analyzed? This book provides readers with the methodology to conduct an environmental analysis and use its findings to promote successful instruction. The book is divided into four parts. Part 1 includes two chapters that introduce the concept of environmental analysis. Part 2 contains four chapters that discuss environmental factors that influence the learning environment--facilities, materials, equipment, and learner/instructor factors. The third part examines the support environment factors, particularly institutional and organizational factors. Environmental data gathering and design is introduced in part 4. Two chapters explain how to gather environmental information and how to utilize these data for the instructional design. Data-gathering suggestions are offered for the first nine chapters. Nine figures are included. The appendix contains a sample environmental analysis survey. (LMI)
