The Class "C" Survey 1993-94. Comparisons of Budgets, Levies and Enrollments of Class "C" Montana School Districts.

This report presents data on enrollments, levies, budgets, costs per pupil, and teacher salaries in 82 of Montana's 98 small rural (Class "C") school districts for fiscal year 1993-94. The average enrollment was 143 students in elementary schools and 68 students in high schools. Costs per pupil to the general fund budget without special education averaged $4,233 in elementary schools, $7,803 in high schools, and $6,762 in K-12 districts. The pupil/teacher ratio averaged 13.5 in elementary schools, 8.4 in high schools, and 9.1 in K-12 districts. Teacher salaries averaged $23,380. Data tables provide the following information for each school district: (1) enrollment; (2) taxable valuation (total and per pupil); (3) guaranteed tax base per mill; (4) general fund budgets without special education (total and per pupil); (5) over base budget in dollars; (6) over base levy mills required; (7) general fund reserve as percent of general fund; (8) special education budget and FTE personnel; (9) transportation budget cost per pupil; (10) teacher salaries as percent of total general fund; (11) teacher/pupil ratio; (12) teacher salary schedules; and (13) wages and salaries for instructional aides, noncertified staff, and extra duty.
