The Secondary School Programs of Students with Disabilities. A Report from the National Longitudinal Transition Study of Special Education Students.
Wagner, Mary, Ed.
Data from the National Longitudinal Transition Study of Special Education Students were used to examine five key aspects of secondary education: (1) the overall high school experience, (2) academic course-taking, (3) vocational preparation, (4) placement, and (5) support services for students. An executive summary reports major findings in these areas as well as information on grade-level variations in secondary school programs, differences in school programs for students in different disability categories, and differences in the educational programs of students with disabilities from families with poverty-level incomes and students from families with higher incomes. Almost 70 tables and over 30 figures present the findings of the report's seven chapters, which have the following titles and authors: "Secondary Schools: The Times They Are a Changin'" (Kathleen Hebbeler); "Measurement and Analysis Considerations" (Mary Wagner et al.); "Overview of the High School Experiences of Students with Disabilities" (Kathleen Hebbeler); "Academic Course-Taking" (Lynn Newman); "Participation in Vocational Education by Students with Disabilities" (Jose Blackorby); "Support Services Provided by Secondary Schools" (Renee Cameto); and "What Have We Learned about the Secondary School Programs of Students with Disabilities?" (Mary Wagner). (Individual papers include references.) (DB)
