This publication provides statistical data concerning the distribution of approximately 85 percent of all active full-time U.S. medical school faculty, as reported by the schools themselves. Tables and figures present data concerning the overall faculty distribution by sex, ethnicity, rank, degree, and age. In addition, rank and degree distributions are presented according to ethnicity, age, and department, and these statistics are then further broken out by sex and presented in the category distributions of rank and tenure status, ethnicity and rank, ethnicity and degree, ethnicity and department, and degree and department. Additional tables list faculty distribution in postdoctoral research training by degree and department, Medical Doctor faculty by primary specialty, and the distribution of U.S. medical school faculty by specialty/subspecialty and by sex. The publication concludes with a list of 74 public and 52 private institutions by U.S. region. (GLR)
