The feasibility and appropriateness of including personnel with limited literacy skills in a comprehensive school evaluation were studied with 119 cafeteria, custodial, grounds, and maintenance workers in 4 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 5 secondary schools. A verbally administered 22-item written questionnaire addressing characteristics of effective schools was prepared and administered. The questionnaire consisted of yes/no type questions. These personnel were able and willing to provide useful evaluative information. Results suggest that inclusion of cafeteria workers, custodial, grounds, and maintenance workers in comprehensive school evaluation is feasible and appropriate.
