The paper presents a brief overview of the inservice training of European Community foreign language teachers in their own member state and in other member states. The information describing such training was collected as preparation for the LINGUA program (which promotes improvement in foreign language competence and includes measures to promote inservice training of foreign language teachers). The information in this document includes data on the 12 European Community member states: Belgium (French-speaking and Dutch-speaking), Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. Each section offers tables with information in four areas: (1) type and length of training; (2) organization; (3) financing; and (4) training conditions. (SM)
