Career Planning Curriculum for Single Parents and Displaced Homemakers. Curriculum Guide.
Grefsheim, Lianne; And Others
This 72-hour curriculum is designed to meet the needs of single parents and displaced homemakers who are in the process of planning a career that will enable them to be economically self-sufficient. Nontraditional career exploration and sex-role stereotyping in career choices are addressed in the curriculum, which is based on the Adult Career Development Competencies as taken from the National Career Development Guidelines. A list of competencies and indicators and the time allotted for each is included in the curriculum. The curriculum is organized around 11 competencies that center on three areas; (1) self-knowledge (developing a positive self-concept, maintaining effective behaviors, understanding developmental changes and transitions); (2) career exploration (participating in education and training, lifelong learning, changes in male/female roles, locating and evaluating career information, and how society influences the nature and structure of work); and (3) career planning (decision making, the impact of work on individual and family life, and career transitions). The curriculum units include an overview, instructor notes, instructor resources, activities, and handouts. (KC)
