Teaching the Arts: Miami's New World School of the Arts.

This case study of the New World School of the Arts (Miami, Florida) outlines the planning, problem solving, and management involved in establishing the school. The New World School is both a public high school and college, providing intensive training in the performing and visual arts, as well as a full academic curriculum. A brief history, highlighting the schools' evolution is presented. Extensive planning was undertaken from 1984 to 1987 prior to the employment of full-time staff. The report outlines how the school is structured both internally and externally. Details about the selection of staff and pupils are provided. The curriculum provides specialized arts training for students in the secondary school grades 10 through 12 and at the college level through the baccalaureate degree.
