Vocabulary Development.
Stevenson, Sally L.
A study was conducted to determine whether using the schema method for vocabulary instruction would be significantly greater than using the dictionary method for vocabulary instruction. Subjects were 12 sixth grade students who were divided into two sample groups and received different forms of vocabulary instruction for 10 weeks. Each sample was taught 20 words per week. Two vocabulary tests were given during the 10-week period. Although the schema sample achieved a higher mean score than the dictionary sample, results indicated that there was no significant difference between the two sample groups. (One table of data is included and 22 references are attached. Appendixes include 10 word lists and 2 vocabulary tests.) (MG)
