Training in the Community for People with Disabilities.
Helander, E.; And Others
This manual, developed for use in community-based rehabilitation programs in developing countries, describes how rehabilitation can be carried out at home and in the community. The manual consists of 4 guides and 30 training packages. The guide for local supervisors and the guide for the community rehabilitation committee explain how each can work to develop a community based rehabilitation program. The guide for people with disabilities encourages such people in individual and collective rehabilitation efforts. The guide for schoolteachers, intended for teachers who have not received formal special education training, helps teachers integrate children with disabilities into classes with non-disabled children. The training packages written for family members relate to seven types of disability described as: seeing difficulty, hearing and speaking difficulty, moving difficulty, feeling difficulty, strange behavior, fits, and learning difficulty. There are six general training packages on the following topics: breast feeding a baby who has a disability; play activities for a child who has a disability; schooling; social activities; household activities; and job placement.
