Trends and Forecasting Workshop for VTAE Managers (Menomonie, Wisconsin, April 26-28, 1989). Final Report.
Nelson, Orville
This document reports on a 2.5 day workshop that trained 23 middle managers from Wisconsin school districts in developing and using information on trends relevant to vocational, technical, and adult education (VTAE) program planning, including trends in technology, the labor market, demographics, and education. A nine-page description covers the purpose, objectives, approach, participants, agenda, and evaluation of the workshop. The objectives were to: (1) become aware of needs assessment techniques, including the latest strategies for gathering useful data; (2) identify guidelines for future trends and forecasting, especially those relating to recruitment and alternative delivery implications; (3) recall sources of data relating to future trends and forecasting from local, district, state, and national databanks; (4) match data type to typical uses by districts, programs, and teachers; (5) practice gathering district data and applying trends and forecasting strategies within one's own district setting; and (6) develop a plan for sharing guidelines and strategies in one's own district. The rest of the document contains newsletter reprints, Wisconsin labor market information, the results of focus groups on trends and their implications for Wisconsin's vocational education system, and copies of some presentations made at the workshop.
