Countryside Commission, Cheltenham (England).
An advisory group's study of the training needs of people working in countryside conservation and recreation in Great Britain recommends that: (1) employers and training providers make available training that balances the three strands of management (resources, people, and the system), ensure that staff acquire the full range of key skills and core knowledge as well as specialist skills, develop opportunities for all staff to participate regularly in high-quality training throughout their careers, and ensure that staff are aware of their organization's role within a changing countryside and society's demands upon it; (2) higher education develop training that teaches key skills and core knowledge; and (3) all training providers use the countryside training framework as the basis for developing training strategies and programs. (Appendices in the document contain an explanation of the advantages and disadvantages of specific training methods, a description of the education and training opportunities available to countryside staff, a glossary, 28 references, a list of organizations involved in workshops and consultations, a list of members of the Countryside Training Advisory Group, and the illustrative training framework for countryside staff training.)
