National Vocational Qualifications and Further Education. A Commentary on Progress.
Pursaill, John
This report describes the complexities of the process of developing National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) in Britain. It identifies many of the organizations and agencies that are involved in the establishment of a new framework of vocational qualifications. Issues, such as progression and credit accumulation, assessment of open access and prior learning, and monitoring and verification, that colleges will have to face concerning the introduction of the new framework are described. The work accomplished in the following occupational sectors is described: agriculture, business administration and commercial, caring, construction, engineering, hairdressing, hotel and catering, motor vehicle retail and maintenance, retail, travel and tourism, and wholesale. Each occupational sector description includes background information, such as sector characteristics, Vocational Education and Training (VET) organization and development, and implications for further education (FE); and progress toward NVQ status, including accreditations and other developments. A glossary of 56 abbreviations is included. (CML)
