This document is one of a series of modules in the Missouri Auto Mechanics Curriculum Guide, which is based on 144 basic auto mechanics competencies identified on the Missouri Auto Mechanics Competency Profile. The instructor's materials in this document are for a 13-unit secondary education course. The following units are included: (1) introduction to manual drive train and axle design; (2) manual transmission components and their operation; (3) manual transmission diagnosis and repair; (4) components of the clutch assembly and how they operate; (5) clutch assembly, diagnosis, and repair; (6) drive shaft diagnosis and repair; (7) differential components and their operation; (8) differential diagnosis and removal; (9) differential repair, installation, and performance testing; (10) manual transaxle operation and diagnosis; (11) manual transaxle repair, installation, and performance testing; (12) four-wheel drive operation, diagnosis, and repair; and (13) transfer case diagnosis and repair. The document begins with explanations of how to use the curriculum guide, how and why student achievement of competencies is evaluated over several job sheets, and how the curriculum guide is packaged. Next is a table that associates individual instructional materials in the units with the competencies they teach. The instructional units include unit objectives, objectives specific to each lesson in the unit, references, information sheets or outlines, assignment sheets, job sheets, tests, and answers to tests.
