Hevel, David; Donovan, Roger
This document is one of a series of modules in the Missouri Auto Mechanics Curriculum Guide, which is based on 144 basic auto mechanics competencies identified on the Missouri Auto Mechanics Competency Profile. The instructor's materials in this document are for a 14-unit secondary education course. The following units are included: (1) principles of electricity; (2) electrical circuit design; (3) testing and diagnosing electrical circuits; (4) battery diagnosis and service; (5) starting systems; (6) disassembling, inspecting, testing, and repairing starter systems; (7) charging system components; (8) charging system diagnosis and repair; (9) inspecting, repairing, and replacing charging system components; (10) identifying, diagnosing, and testing automotive lighting systems; (11) repairing and replacing automotive lighting system components; (12) automotive gauges, warning devices, and driver information systems; (13) horn and wiper/washer systems; and (14) miscellaneous automotive accessories. The document begins with explanations of how to use the curriculum guide, how and why student achievement of competencies is evaluated over several job sheets, and how the curriculum guide is packaged. Next is a table that associates individual instructional materials in the units with the competencies they teach. The instructional units include unit objectives, objectives specific to each lesson in the unit, references, information sheets or outlines, assignment sheets, job sheets, tests, and answers to tests.
