Allied Health Program Review.
Dickey, Frank
A follow-up to the 1983 review of the Allied Health Program in the State University System (SUS) of Florida is presented. The review consisted of site visits and interviews on the campuses and consultant reviews of the clinical sites. Three sections are as follows: (1) national and statewide concerns (e.g., over 90% of the SUS allied health programs are currently operating on a limited access basis because they have more applicants than there are spaces, faculty, equipment, and labs; a shift in sources of revenue makes it more important for the allied health programs to demonstrate their merits in terms of benefits to students and to the public interest; and many programs in allied health require greater length of time for completion); (2) general recommendations (e.g., direct continuing efforts toward proposing an equitable measure for assessing the promotion and tenure of allied health faculty; provide appropriate funding for state of the art clinical equipment; and make special efforts to target minority groups for recruitment); and (3) programmatic reviews for each of the system institutions. Five appendices are: lead consultant's resume; institutional schedules for visits; list of university coordinators; list of university consultants; and academic degree program inventory. (SM)
